When women rise, communities thrive.
“Trust yourself. You probably know more than you think you do…
Trust that you can learn anything.”
—Melinda French Gates
Education changed the trajectory of my life, and specifically the lessons I learned and sought out when it came to money.
My mother, who spent most of her adult life as a working single parent, did the best she could to raise me and my four siblings. But in the 70’s, it wasn’t common for women to be in charge of the household finances. Money was not something discussed by women in polite society.
My mom had little ability to manage the family finances and we had to rely on public assistance to make ends meet. I knew there had to be a better way. When I was in my teens, I took it upon myself to take over the family finances.
I sought out resources, I talked to my friends and colleagues as I got older, and I didn’t shy away from money conversations because I saw that building up this knowledge would be a game changer for me. By my early 30’s, I had amassed considerably more wealth than my peers, and I became the person giving financial knowledge instead of seeking it.
Today my life looks vastly different than it did when I was growing up. I’ve spent years as a high earning executive working with Fortune 500 companies, my husband (who is an amazing architect) and I own income properties, and I’m looking forward to stepping into my retirement years early with the peace of mind and financial stability I could have only dreamed of in my younger years.
I am proud of all I have accomplished and the hard work it took me to get here, but now I want to help other women create a plan for their money. I want them to build wealth so they too can change the trajectory of their life or at the very least know confidently the direction they are heading. I am on a mission to help women evolve the way they think about money, make money, and manage their money so they can have a future full of financial stability and possibility.
When not working with clients you can find me at Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont teaching yoga (in the summer outside in the green mountains), swimming with my husband at our local reservoir, traveling to visit many of our National Parks (we prefer the lesser known ones like Big Bend in TX), visiting family and going on Yoga retreats at lovely beach destinations.
I have also created space in my life to continue volunteering. I recently accpetd a Council seat with the Vermont Women’s Fund that provides grants to organizations that drive change for women and girls in Vermont. Their mission and mine are aligned: “When women rise, communities thrive.”
On my journey to full-time entrepreneurship I left my corporate career to start Evolution Financial Coaching. I knew I needed an off ramp from a high earning, high stress job – so I took on two training courses – Yoga Teacher Training to help me slow down and become more mindful and Financial Coaching training to help me on the path to starting this business. Together these have been invaluable learning opportunities that I use in my coaching.
